ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, and the work we do can have significant impact on human health. Nurses, nursing students, and nursing faculty need to understand the health implications of environmental exposures. However, few nursing programs adequately integrate environmental health education into their core curriculum so many nurses are not well-prepared to assess and address environmental risks or find evidence based environmental health information.
EnviRN-Evidence, an online learning program funded by the National Library of Medicine, provides an introduction to toxicology basics, as well as 4 important environmental health issues:
  • Lead poisoning
  • Percholoroethylene exposure (a chemical used in dry cleaning)
  • Fracking (hydraulic fracturing for natural gas)
  • Occupational asthma among nurses.
Additionally, EnviRN-Evidence includes instruction on how to use the National Library of Medicine’s TOXNET databases to find authoritative environmental health evidence and patient education resources. Continuing education units are available for those who complete the program.

OPTIONAL: CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS

Please complete the below form to indicate your interest in continuing education units. You will be contacted when continuing education units are available.
